Happy Black History Month!

This post will be short and sweet, but won’t skimp on spotlighting some of the amazing food coming out of good ole Houston — and of course, we’ll be focusing on black-owned restaurants. Tis the season!

And here’s a little tip for you Houstonians: Houston Black Restaurant Week is a great time to try out some black-owned restaurants.

Okay, so you’re down and you want to try some black-owned hot spots, but don’t know where to start…don’t worry about it. We got you covered.

Houston’s own Black Blogger Clique has compiled a list of black-owned restaurants in Houston AND is giving you a chance to win gift cards to some of these places by participating in a fun game. Head on over to their Instagram (link here) for official rules.

So without further ado, here are a few of our favorite Houston black-owned restaurants we’ve visited, in no particular order. Pssst…we hear some of them are on the Black Blogger Clique’s list, too!

The Turkey Leg Hut

Close-up of the Alfredo shrimp stuffed turkey leg – this is a Turkey Leg Hut signature and probably our favorite. It’s the dirty rice stuffed turkey leg with shrimp alfredo

Mikki’s Soul Food

Crumbville, TX

Kulture

Collard green purse. These little things were cute and full of yummy surprises. The collards had a great flavor and there was turkey inside.

Not Jus Donuts

Breakfast Brunch Cafe

Shrimp and grits

Neyow’s Creole Cafe

Plates assorted with different foods. The fried catfish pieces were also seasoned well!

Phil and Derek’s

Just a sampling – greens, sausage, red beans & rice, smothered steak, catfish and slice of bacon
