2 Girls Who Travel Sample the Menu at Live Oak Lounge & Grill

There’s a new chill spot with good eats coming to Historic Third Ward in Houston. With the New Year comes a new concept to the area. Live Oak Lounge & Grill is aiming to do just that. The lounge and eatery will offer food by executive chef Javani King. Did we mention Javani was just on Food Network’s Chopped?

Those familiar with the area may remember the location as the former Sugarhill Bar and Lounge. Well, there’s a new owner and a new look. Live Oak hosted a private media tasting in which guests were able to sample some of the delicious menu items and get a sneak peek of the venue before it officially opens Jan. 12.

Oak Wing Pops with Cajun Zing and Jalapeno Cilantro Ranch: not only were these wings cute, they tasted delicious. The drizzle of sauce really set them off.

Andouille Sausage Sliders with Honey BBQ Sauce and a Dill Pickle on a Brioche Bun: it was hard to eat just one of these bite-size appetizers!

Cornmeal Fried Bayou Catfish: us Southern girls live for some good catfish. This didn't disappoint.

We were bummed we weren’t able to get our hands on the crab cake, but something tells us that’s definitely going to be one of the menu items to order!

Live Oak will be open six days a week and serve a Happy Hour menu from 4-7pm featuring appetizer versions of its entrees and specialty cocktails. Live Oak Lounge & Grill is located at 2533 Southmore Blvd., Houston, Texas 77004.
