2 Girls Who Travel were invited to the African American Interactive Experience Pop-up and we had a ball! It was a total mood, filled with cool people, great food by Chef Sherwin LaDay, and great vibes. This super cute house – the Booked Design Space – in the Montrose neighborhood is definitely an experience where you want to grab your friends and do photo shoots all day! Some serious selfie love going on here!

We had the chance to speak with the owner of Booked Design Space, home of the AFAM Experience, Alexandria Green, about how this concept came about. Green shared, “My business partner, Corey Ivory, is an interior designer and he developed a lot of the rooms here with Color Social. They are an uber-talented, millennial group who just did the Winter Wonders Pop-up Experience and now partnered with us here at Booked Design Space.”

“We want to shine a light on black history and culture and tie it into unity and Valentine’s Day. It all falls together and our culture was built on love. We had to overcome certain obstacles coming here, but we had the love of our families. The world is so divided. If we remember, it’s all about love. If you love each other the way you want be loved and focus on that then we can all get along,” said Green.

In the AFAM Experience you walk through the six different rooms and get to experience various moments in time.

  • Read All About It Room – As the name implies, you can read clippings from various newspapers and see the infamous gold accents
  • The Sound of Motown Room – Feel like a Motown Superstar and get behind the mic!
  • Ebony and Ivory – Some classic magazine covers to look back on
  • Diana’s Dressing Room – The glitz and glam of Diana
  • V-Day Unity – Super cute room with real Hershey kisses inside
  • H-Town Time Capsule – Only a true H-Town proud person would appreciate

The AFAM Experience will be up the entire month of February and is open to the public Monday through Friday from 11am to 6pm. Tickets are on sale and can be purchased on Eventbrite.

They are also taking private bookings if you don’t want to share the space with anyone! You can book it by the hour or even have a wedding there in the cute courtyard in the back. They have awesome packages that include an in-house chef, photographer, videographer, and even a partnership with Stoned by CP (Callye Peyrovi) for assistance with picking out the perfect ring.

The venue can also be used for meetings, book launches, bridal showers or any other intimate event. Be sure to to email info@bookeddesignspace.com.
