REVIEW: Brunch at Eggcellence Cafe

Which came first, the chicken or the egg? That’s a question for the ages.

Well at Eggcellence Cafe, it doesn’t matter! They throw down on both the chicken and the egg!

We were invited to try brunch at the restaurant’s newest location in Sugar Land this past weekend and let’s just say we were pleasantly surprised.

Between the two of us, we tried both sweet and savory as well as traditional breakfast and brunch.

First off, with the play on eggs in the name of the restaurant, we figured those were worth a try. Val’s a strict no-egg person, but Kim was down.

First entree was the chicken fried chicken. It’s a well-seasoned chicken breast topped with a creamy homestyle gravy. It comes with two eggs (any style) and hash browns or roasted potatoes. It’s a filling, tasty option that we enjoyed, but we also tried a couple other things that were absolutely amazing.

Enter the quintessential brunch favorite – chicken and waffles.

It comes with waffles (obviously) and five pieces of fried chicken. Eggcellence fries the chicken with your choice of sauce on top – Korean and Thai.

Whereas the Korean sauce is more spicy, the Thai sauce is more sweet.

We opted for the Thai chicken and were so glad we did. It was tender, juicy and just sweet enough. The waffles were plain, nothing special, but thick and spongey.

And now – for those who like their breakfast and brunch the sweet way. We definitely suggest the cinnamon pancakes. If pancakes and cinnamon rolls had a baby, this would be it.

The dish comes with three cinnamon pancakes with cream cheese icing, cinnamon powder sugar and cinnamon maple butter. This was so delicious and a definite must-order. If you’d prefer something more savory, order both!

Eggcellence Cafe has two locations, one in Katy and now the newest in Sugar Land. The Katy location serves breakfast, lunch and dinner while the Sugar Land location serves breakfast and lunch.

The restaurant prides itself on using cage-free eggs and offering halal and kosher meats as well as pancakes and waffles that are gluten-free.
