You’ve heard us say it plenty of times, and we know you know, but we’ll say it just one more time for the folks in the back who may not have heard us. “New Orleans is one of our favorite cities to visit… definitely top 3 in the country!”
Well, there’s more to New Orleans than just Bourbon Street…You’ve read our previous blogs with our lists of areas we like to venture to, i.e. Bywater, Uptown, Mid City, Treme and more! But don’t sleep on this city’s surrounding areas. There are some amazing ‘burbs that have a lot to offer…entertainment, cultural attractions and great restaurants.
On a recent trip to New Orleans, we opted to stay in Metairie – the first suburb of New Orleans, located on the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain between the cities of New Orleans and Kenner.
Don’s Seafood is a Cajun-style restaurant in Metairie, LA, that serves seafood dishes like gumbo, stuffed catfish, charbroiled oysters and more. What started as a single restaurant in 1934 by Don Landry in Lafayette, LA, has grown into a hugely popular restaurant destination in Louisiana with several locations across the state.
On this trip, we decided to order a few different things and really “sample” the menu. And boy was it good! We had charbroiled oysters, boudin balls, hushpuppies, gumbo, seafood spinach dip, a fried seafood combo (fried and stuffed shrimp, fish, oysters and shrimp etouffee) and the Fourchon (fried catfish topped with jumbo lump crab in the most amazing cream sauce – OMG!). See for yourself…
Yes, the food tastes just as good as it looks! Our favorites you ask? We’ll say the Jacked Up Oysters (bacon and jalapenos really kicked it up a notch) and the Fourchon with that amazing sauce!
Don’s Seafood was a nice switch from our usual downtown/French Quarter restaurants we visit. We’ll definitely be back!
Don’s Seafood is located at 4801 Veterans Memorial Blvd, Metairie, LA 70006.
