So the other day, I (Val) was in my old ‘hood and stumbled upon a place I’d been itching to try for a while – Tubs Poutine.
For those who haven’t heard of it, let me help you get familiar.
The restaurant is located on Briar Forest near Eldridge in West Houston. The location was formerly home to Glazed – The Doughnut Cafe. Most know the uber popular flagship location in the Medical Center. Well, yeah there was one in West Houston, too. Guessing it wasn’t quite as successful – anywho, moving on…
Poutine is a dish that originated in Canada and consists of French fries, cheese curds and gravy. At Tubs Poutine, you can get all kinds of variations and toppings – everything from the simple Classic poutine to poutine with pulled pork, brisket and fried chicken.
But if you’re in the mood for something a bit more mobile, consider Tubs Poutine’s assortment of roll-ups. All the deliciousness of the poutine wrapped up in a tortilla.
I went that route and picked up their two most popular – the lobster roll-up and the smoked brisket roll-up.
Here’s my thoughts on each:

The smoked brisket roll-up had just enough kick for no salt or pepper! The meat was tender and there were plenty of flavors going on for my liking. I always like the pairing of savory meat with the sweetness of roasted corn and grilled onions. This is a roll-up I’d get again.

The lobster roll-up was pure perfection. I added a dash of salt ONLY because I’m used to doing that will any lobster roll I have. Don’t judge me! But it totally doesn’t need it. Not much to say here other than you get plenty pieces of delicious lobster meat and you know that makes me happy. Not only would I get this roll-up again, I’d damn near get it every time.
Did I mention Tubs Poutine has a happy hour menu? From Monday through Friday, 5-6:30pm, but the roll-ups are not on the menu.
Tubs Poutine is located at 13429 Briar Forest Drive, Houston, TX 77077.Β
