REVIEW: Brunch at a’Bouzy

It’s been a minute since we sat down for a good brunch, you know the kind – complete with lots of mimosas and good conversation…

Well we decided to change that this past Sunday by visiting a restaurant we’ve heard a lot of buzz about recently – a’Bouzy.

It’s a super cute eatery located in River Oaks that serves up French-inspired American cuisine. And wine.

Lots of wine.

In fact, they have a selection of more than 250 champagnes and more than 50 types of wine by the glass. Bottle prices can fit any budget – from $12 to more than $2,000. Yes, you read that right.

Our server Larry was so kind as to help us select just the right wine to pair with our juice for mimosas. (Kim’s a fan of dry and Val prefers sweet). So we met in the middle with a not-too-dry, not-too-sweet wine.

And every bottle popped is truly a celebration. Everyone erupts in a spirited “a’Bouzy!”

Every guest is given complimentary truffle popcorn which paired nice with our mimosas.

If you’ve been following 2 Girls Who Travel for a while, it should come as no surprise to you that we opted for the crab and shrimp cocktail appetizer and the lobster/shrimp roll and stuffed salmon for our entrees.

We can’t find anything bad to say about the food. The appetizer had plenty of crab and shrimp pieces and you literally have three choices of sauce.

Both entrees were delicious with large chunks of lobster in both. The lobster roll is a tad on the pricey side ($24) compared to others in Houston, but the flavor was good.

Lobster and shrimp roll: Poached Maine lobster, Gulf shrimp, tarragon, brioche and fries substituted for chips
Grilled Wild Alaskan Stuffed Salmon with shrimp, crab and brie,
lobster and shrimp risotto and tomato dill sauce

And in true 2 Girls Who Travel fashion, we couldn’t pass up dessert. We opted for the donuts and they were very good! If you have the room after your meal, definitely worth a try.

Overall, our experience at a’Bouzy was a good one. The restaurant offers valet parking right in front or you can opt to park on the street nearby. We went around noon on Sunday and were able to find street parking.

The service was exceptional and the food was the icing on the cake. There’s ample seating inside or, if Houston’s weather ever starts cooperating, you can dine on the patio.

It could make a great date night or a Sunday brunch with friends. We’ll be back!

a’Bouzy is located at 2300 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77098.
