We are still recovering from a full weekend of food and fun as part of the Houston Black Restaurant Week’s “Harvest the Block” initiative that benefited the Blue Triangle Community Commercial Kitchen. It allowed Houstonians to experience the farm-to-table cycle.
Friday night’s Kitchen Konversations was an interactive culinary demonstration with Chef Shakti Baum; and Saturday morning was the farmer’s market featuring produce from black farms followed by a block party with music, drinks and tastings from local food trucks.
Check out these pictures from the block party!

Harvest the Block culminated with a family-style feast, which invited the entire community out to eat at the Blue Triangle Community Commercial Kitchen. This was a Sunday dinner extravaganza. Every seat in the room was filled. Community members sat at the table, met new people and fellowshipped over a delicious meal by executive chefs Yolanda Henry and Javani King.
Houston Black Restaurant Week chair Warren Luckett told attendees the organization partnered with Blue Triangle to help renovate its community kitchen, which will allow for small catering companies and executive chefs to rent out the kitchen to prepare meals.
If you missed the Harvest the Block event, don’t worry … Houston Black Restaurant Week has a lot in store for the city. You can keep up with their events here. Stay Tuned!
